| Why LhD? |
|
This site is a repository of ratings of compatibility and performance of
computer hardware components under Linux. It also includes some information
about device drivers and some hints for getting quirky devices working under
Linux. It could be thought of as a dynamic hardware compatibility FAQ last
updated on Fri Nov 29 04:01:00 2002 , but it is much more than that.
See how well "Z" works with Linux. Check to see if the new NIC is
supported. Find out how well that SCSI card has worked for other Linux users.
Search for workarounds to get the pesky video card running.
Contribute your experience. Report your happiness with that great
motherboard and help others make the right choice. Or rate that cheap network
card that never worked right so low that others don't make the same mistake.
(You need to be registered to enter product reports).
What LhD is NOT:
- LhD is not owned or controlled by any hardware manufacturers or resellers -
the reviews here are written by our users, and are not biased or influenced by
any commercial third parties.
- LhD is not a hardware certification lab - all of our reports are submitted
by Linux users around the world, and their contents do not necessarily represent
the opinion of the LhD team about the products in question.
- LhD is not a list of only Linux compatible hardware - we list all kinds of
products, many that will work great in Linux, and some that don't work at all.
If a product isn't listed on our site, or if it does appear but has no reviews
yet, that doesn't mean it isn't compatible, it just means we're waiting for a
Linux user like you to share your experiences with the rest of the community!
How does it work? All of the information is stored in a database.
Every report (a mini-review or mini-howto contributed by a Linux user) is tied
to a specific product record. This means that product ratings can be calculated
automatically, and all information pertaining to a particular piece of hardware
is in one easy-to-find, uncluttered place.
